Surgical Dentistry is a branch of Dental Medicine that involves surgical management and treatment of the teeth, the jawbone, and other surrounding structures. At Clear Dental, our highly-trained surgical dentist performs surgical procedures to deliver appropriate treatment for certain cases. Oral surgical procedures are performed to treat inflammation of the jaw, gums, and salivary glands; dental cysts, abscess, and trauma to the jaw joint. Surgical Dental Extraction is the most common surgical procedure performed in our clinic. It is commonly needed due to the following reasons: Unerupted tooth embedded beneath the gums and/or bone Orthodontic reasons or the need to correct the bite Fractured tooth Extensive decay Advanced gum disease Removal of Wisdom Tooth is another dental surgical procedure done to remove an impacted wisdom tooth. Since impacted wisdom tooth is embedded in the bone, it requires an incision of the gums and removal of bone structures. Dental Implants is the most in-demand oral surgical procedure in Sydney to replace an extracted tooth. It is the placement of a biocompatible screw to replace the tooth root then a dental crown is attached as the tooth restoration. Sinus Lift Augmentation is a surgical procedure that increases the amount of bone between the gums and the maxillary sinus. It is usually performed prior to dental implant placement. It makes more room for the dental implant. Piezosurgery is the most common method used in sinus lift augmentation. Socket Preservation is another treatment done prior to dental implant placement, but can also be done to preserve the bone height when replacing with fixed bridge or denture. It is a procedure where bone minerals are placed directly at the socket or hole of a newly extracted tooth. Apicoectomy is the surgical removal of a cyst located at the root tip of a tooth. A cyst can develop due infection or inflammation of a decayed tooth or gum infection. It is removed by making an incision in the gums to expose the bone. After the bone has been exposed, a hole will be drilled to gain access to the cyst. The cyst will be scooped out then a part of the tooth root will be removed to prevent recurrence of infection. Salivary Gland Stones develop when there is an accumulation of chemicals in the saliva. It may cause blockage of salivary flow which can cause dry mouth. Small stones are usually removed by stimulating the salivary flow by sucking candy or pushed by the dentist. For larger salivary gland stones, the surgical dentist might need to do an incision in the mouth to remove the stone. Crown Lengthening is a dental surgical procedure performed to expose a greater amount of teeth by removing excess gums that makes you look “gummy”. It is performed by incising the gums using surgical blades, electrocautery surgery, or piezoelectric surgery. It is usually done to improve the dental aesthetics of a person. At Clear Dental, we execute Surgical Dentistry procedures to alleviate any pain felt by the patient or treat any existing inflammation; and make your smile healthier.
